Current Event Guidelines

 Keeping up on what is going on in the world is part of your responsibility of being an informed citizen; therefore you should regularly read and view a variety of news outlets in both print and TV/video/web mediums. When a Current Event summary is assigned, you must use the following format.

Current Event Summaries must to follow the below format for credit.

Summaries are to include:   

  1. Heading:
            * Title
            * Source
            * Date
            * Author

2. Storyline (at least 1 paragraph)
 * The basic story line: who, what, where, when, why, how.
 * News, magazine, internet articles are to be attached to student summaries.

3. Critical Questions and Evaluations (1 Paragraph)
Who is the intended audience? (Target audience)
How do you know?
Why was the source produced; what purpose did it serve?

Does other evidence support the source?
Does other evidence contest the source? Is the source believable? Is the source in a position to know?

4. Contrary View
Was another position or point of view presented?
Assess the source of the contrary view (same as above)

5. What is the level of credibility of your article? Make a statement and back that up with specific examples from the text. (1 Paragraph) Assess the overall bias of this article. Did the source favor on side over another? Was information evenly balanced? What was the tone of the article?
 

6. Opinion of story. Why did you choose this? (1Paragraph)

No Sport Score Stories are allowed. You may report on a sporting news event (i.e. steroids in baseball) but you may not just report the outcome of a game or how many points someone scored.
